Falcon News - Week of 10/24/22

Good Evening Falcon Scholars and Parents. This is Walter Johnson, proud principal of Forbush Middle School with the Falcon News. I hope everyone has had a great weekend. Please listen carefully to this week’s announcements.

  • Any athlete planning on participating in a winter sport must have a current physical and be signed up on FamilyID prior to the start of tryouts.
  • Basketball cheer Tryouts for all grades is scheduled for Nov 1 & 2 from 4PM to 6PM. If trying out, please plan to have someone to pick them up.
  • This week we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week. This is a national campaign to promote drug abuse prevention. This year’s theme  is “Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free.” We will kick off the week by all wearing red on Monday, Tuesday is Pajama and Disney day, Wednesday is Wacky Tacky Day. On Thursday, we’re asking students to wear Forbush colors and Forbush spiritwear. Students may wear costumes on Friday but must make sure faces are not covered. Costumes cannot include weapons.
  • Art Club is this Tuesday, the 25th.  Students need to bring an apron or an old t-shirt to wear on art club days. 
  • Students participating in Pirates: The Musical will have rehearsal on Monday directly after school until 5:30. This is for the whole cast. There will be no other musical rehearsals this week. 
  • Your 2nd opportunity for Picture Day is Oct 27. Check out the FMS website for details.
  • 7th Grade Sound to Sea & 8th Grade Washington DC Trip Krispy Kreme Fundraiser order forms and money are due tomorrow, Monday, October 24th. 
  • PTO is sponsoring a Winter Formal on Friday, December 16 from 6pm - 9pm. It will take place in our gymnasium. We need volunteers! More information to come.
  • The Volleyball Tournament will be held at North Wilkes next week. Congratulations to our 6/7 Grade volleyball team who placed first and will play East Wilkes on Monday (10/24). The game will start at 4:00pm. Congratulations to our 7/8 Grade volleyball team who placed second and will play Alleghany on Tuesday (10/25) The game will start at 5pm.
  • Please be sure to check the athletic calendar for all of the games scheduled for this week.
Before I end this call, I leave with you this motivational moment by Henry Ford. “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty.  Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.”  Tomorrow begins another great week at Forbush Middle School.
